Netsuke; katabori. Bird. Tamakazu, Edo Period (1603-1868), Japan. Small, squat bird with open beak, the rounded body flanked by short outspread wings and erect tail. Eyes black, inlaid in horn. Very smooth, no incised details but slight staining. Himotoshi on the underside. Ivory, carved, eyes inlaid in horn, height, whole, 2.2 cm, width, whole, 4.3 cm, circa 1800-1868. Collection: H.S.
