An image of Studies for 'The Reading Lesson'. Dalou, Aimé Jules (French sculptor, 1838-1902). Studies for 'The Reading Lesson' signed and dated 1874. The composition representing Madame Dalou and her daughter Georgette was included in the exhibition 'Sculptures by Jules Dalou' at Malletts, 28 April - 9 May 1964, no. 6. The final composition differes considerably from the drawing. A further sketch appears to be for a 'Maternité'. Compare PD.14-1979. Graphite with pen and brown ink, and slight traces of red crayon on paper, height 236 mm, width 313 mm, circa 1874.
