Pottery jug with a frieze of kufic script

An image of Islamic pottery. Jug. Unknown potter, probably, Iran or Syria. Shape: oval body on a disc base with a short, slightly flaring neck and a strap handle attached to the neck and shoulder. Exterior: a frieze of kufic script is moulded on the shoulder below which a series of impressed marks indicates the process of joining this decoration to the body of the jug. On the neck an impressed concentric band is visible. Interior: undecorated. Buff marl earthenware, probably wheel thrown with moulded decoration applied on the shoulder. Height, whole, 16.8 cm, width, whole, 14.7 cm, diameter, rim, 8.2 cm, diameter, base, 5.5 cm, weight, whole, 652 g, circa 1100-circa 1299. Ayyubid, Seljuk.
