Inscription surrounded by floral border: Saxifraga lingulata Bell. Bicknell, Clarence (British, 1842-1918). Recto: A great contrast to the / exponent of the latest novelty / were the two labourers who now / appeared. Their business was quar- / riing the rocks, and the first said / "It's not with axe and hammer, / It's not by blows & Knocks, / But it's by perseverance / That we break up the rocks. With aid of frost and raindrops / By our unceasing toil / We break the rock to pieces / And make for all fresh soil." / "Yes, you see", said Mr. Sage / one is bending down to / break up the rock below, and one stands upright to work / at that above. It mus be slow / and hard work indeed, and we / ought all to be very grateful. I / hope they are / well paid." Verso: Saxifraga / Aizoon Jacq.
