Funerary equipment. Coffin lid, fragment, with modelled face. Production Place: Egypt. Find Spot: Bahariya Oasis, Egypt. Clay, diameter 21 cm, height 24 cm, 525 B.C. to 401 B.C. (probable dating). Persian. Notes: Such coffins were manufactured throughout Egyptian history and appear at a number of cemetery sites. They are difficult to date because of abstract features that remain constant throughout yet often differ considerably within the same period and at the same site.
