Japanese textile sample with tigers carrying bamboos

An image of Textiles. Sample. Unknown maker, Japan. Design includes tigers carrying bamboos and chrysanthemums, lizards or dragons, serpents, three-legged frogs, butterfly, scorpion and centipede. Polychrome brocading, including silver strips (Ginran) on reddish brown satin faced ground. circa 1550-circa 1599, possibly late 16th century. Acquisition Credit: Given by Mrs. Soame Jenyns, in accordance with the wishes of her late husband, Soame Jenyns.
Notes: This metal thread weaving technique was introduced by the Chinese late 16th century. High quality "kinran" is particularly associated with Tenna Eva (1680-84); therefore this piece may possibly be mid Edo (late 17th/early 18th century).
