English Delftware. Dish/Charger. The Temptation. Probably made by the Limekiln Lane pottery in Bristol, or at Brislington pottery. Bundy, Josiah, Gaynard, James, proprietors of pottery. Decorated with Adam and Eve holding leaves in front of themselves, standing on either side of the Tree of Knowledge with a striped serpent twined round the trunk. On the right and left there are low sponged bushes. Round the rim there are two blue lines and blue sponging. Buff earthenware, tin-glazed bluish-white on both sides, painted and sponged in blue and dark green, and painted in yellow and red; the glaze on the reverse had numerous pinholes and dribbling; three peg marks under the rim, height, whole, 7.4 cm, diameter, whole, 34 cm, circa 1730-1740.
