An image of Maiolica. Figure Group. The Virgin and Child enthroned. Unidentified Deruta potter, Umbria. The Virgin sits on a semi-circular throne with a winged cherub's head on each side at the front. She wears a long-sleeved yellow and orange striped gown and a blue cloak scattered with yellow stars. The infant Christ holding an orb sits on her right knee, and she supports a book on her left knee. The green base is decorated along the shaped front edge with three winged cherub's heads in relief. The top is inscribed in manganese `CF/PC/1676 16../S M'. The back of the throne is inscribed in blue `A.D.22D./MARZO/ 1676/.CDF./ P '. Dark buff earthenware, moulded and modelled in the round; tin-glazed on the exterior and on the hollow interior. Painted in dark blue, green, yellow, brownish-orange, and manganese-purple. Height, whole, 38.5 cm, width, base, 18.4 cm, depth, base, 24.0 cm, dated 22 March 1676. Baroque.
