Gilt brass engraved casket, by Michel Mann

An image of Metalwork/Casket. Mann, Michel (German, active 1589-d. after 1630), Nüremberg. The rectangular casket stands on four ball feet (possibly replacements). The four corners and the centre of the front and back panels have openwork copper mounts. The hinged lid, has a central handle, but has lost the lock mechanism underneath. The top is engraved with a lady and gentleman in early 17th century costume. The front and back are engraved with pairs of Turks (?) and each of the two ends with one Turk. The base is engraved with a townscape with several church spires enclosed by two rectangular lines. The strap across the centre of the top is engraved with the maker's name 'MICHEL MAN'. Gilt brass and copper, with engraved decoration, copper mounts, height, whole, 4.6 cm, length, whole, 7.2 cm, width, whole, 5 cm, circa 1600-1630. Renaissance.
