An image of Maiolica. Pharmacy jar/albarello. Unidentified Pesaro potter, The Marches. Broad albarello with straight sides. On the front, in a contour panel with three lobes on each side, are profile busts of a man and woman wearing contemporary costume, facing inwards towards a vase of pinks, with groups of three dots in the background. The rest of the main field is decorated with gothic foliage and peacock's feather eye motifs. Above and below there is a wide blue band and a dark yellow band between two blue; on the shoulder, a row of blue chevrons with a horizontal blue band above. `4S758' is incised into the base. Buff earthenware, tin-glazed on the exterior and more thinly on the interior; base and outer edge of base unglazed. Painted in dark blue, green, dark yellow, and manganese-purple. Height, whole, 26.9 cm, diameter, rim, 20.0 cm, diameter, base, 17.3 cm, diameter, whole, 21.2 cm, circa 1470-1480. Renaissance.
