  • Cup and saucer/beaker and saucer/tea bowl and saucer. Richard Chaffers & Co., factory, Liverpool, Shaw's Brow. The tea bowl is of tapering hexagonal form, standing on a circular footring. The saucer is hexagonal with sloping sides and almost flat central area, standing on a circular footring. The cup is decorated on the exterior with alternating stylized floral motifs on each facet, and below the rim with a narrow border of alternating panels of trellis diaper and a wavy branch with a leaf at each end. The saucer has a central flowerhead, surrounded by alternating stylized floral motifs on each side, and below the rim, a narrow border of alternating panels of trellis diaper and a wavy branch with three leaves at each end. Soft-paste porcelain (presumed steatitic), painted in blue under glaze which is tinted very pale blue and appears greenish-blue on the interior of the cup and exterior of the saucer. The saucer has is no glaze on the interior edge of the footring and an irregular narrow area within it. Height, cup, 6.1 cm, width, cup, 7.8 cm, height, saucer, 2.5 cm, width, saucer, 12.4 cm, circa 1760. Chinese Style. Production Note: Richard Chaffers' factory operated between about 1755 and 1765. It produced soft-paste porcelain containing soapstone or steatite. The form and decoration of this cup and saucer were influenced by Chinese blue and white porcelain.
