Willow Pattern Plate, by Copeland

An image of Willow Pattern Plate. Copeland, Staffordshire. Circular with a slightly wavy edge, concave rim, deep curved sides and flat centre. The flat area is decorated with the traditional Willow Pattern with three figures on the bridge and a pair of birds flying overhead. The sides have a border comprising four wide V-shapes containing a rectangular motif with inset corners, alternating with panels of ribbon diaper pattern. The rim has a wide dense border of of panels, scrolls, circular and rectangular motifs with a small trellis diaper background, and a pseudo-beaded edging. White earthenware, moulded, transfer-printed in blue under lead-glaze. Height 3 cm, diameter 24.7 cm, circa 1910. Chinoiserie.
