Vessel. Red-figure skyphos. A red-figure skyphos on a ring foot, with two horizontal handles just under the rim of the vessel. Side (a) displays a seated female figure with phiale and wreath, side (b) a seated nude youth with a phiale and wreath. Both figures sit on rocks. Stylistically the vessel belongs to the ‘Rochester group’ which is characterized by a preference for the so-called ‘open treatment’ of the breast (where the whole area is defined by two curves leaving the space between them empty) as well as a preference for depicting the drapery in bunches of two or three folds. Production Place: Apulia. 350-325 B.C.
