Iznik dish, Ottoman Period

An image of Iznik Dish. Interior: all designs are outlined in black. On the rim a meandering scroll of white stems and red and white split leaf palmettes, with inward curving tips, is reserved in blue. On the body, painted in blue and red on a turquoise ground, a symmetrical floral spray incorporates carnations, rosettes and broad ‘saz’ leaves with central stem of red prunus flowers, all arranged around an arabesque. Fritware, probably mould made, painted in red slip, blue, turquoise and black under a colourless glaze, height 6.3cm, diameter (rim) 30.7cm, diameter (base) 16.3cm, circa 1575-1580. Production Place: Turkey, Iznik. Islamic, Ottoman.
