Fritware (stonepaste)/ tankard and cover. Tankard: around the rim panels, divided by yellow and purple vertical lines, containing alternately black diagonal crosses interspersed with dots, or mounds with sprouting flowers. On the body polychrome vertical friezes of stylised floral sprays separated by yellow vertical lines from winged stylised angels’ heads. On the handle, a vertical line of semi-circles in alternating colours. The underside is glazed, with three spur marks clearly visible resulting from use of a tripod stacking device in the kiln. Vessel displays signs of defection in manufacture namely a hole in the handle and a dent in the lower body. Cover: two concentric friezes of polychrome stylised floral sprays, the lower incorporating ‘saz’ leaves. Decoration differs from that on the tankard, which may suggest that the cover belonged originally to a different vessel. Glaze covers underside except for the lip. Fritware, painted in polychrome under a clear glaze, wheel thrown with elements hand made or carved. Finely potted, painted in red, blue, purple, yellow, black and green under a clear, crazed glaze.
