An image of Illuminated Manuscript. Cutting. Initial from an Antiphoner. Parchment, 288 x 158 mm, three four-line musical staves ruled in red, three lines of fragmentary text ruled in hard point. CONTENTS: On reverse, fragmentary text from the invitatory for Matins for the Second Sunday of Advent, [Surgite, vigilemus] uenite a[doremus q]uia ne[scitis hora]m quan[do venite Dominus]; the historiated initial H introduced the responsory to the first lesson of Matins for the Second Sunday of Advent, Hierusalem cito, and would originally have been on the verso of the leaf. DECORATION: Historiated initial [H] in pink on gold ground: Four Patriarchs or Prophets in the bowl of the letter looking up at the Redeemer above, with painted acanthus forming partial border in upper margin. Production Place: Italy, Padua. Fourteenth century, second quarter.
