Copper charger, by John Pearson

An image of Metalwork. Copper Charger. Pearson, John (British, 1859-1930).  Large, circular, dark brown copper charger, with a wide flat bowl surrounded by a horizontal rim and covered with repoussé decoration. On a raised dome in the centre is a tree, with the sun behind it, surrounded by a circular chain of eight hounds, and around that the inscription ‘WHAT DEEDS ARE DONE IN THE NAME OF POVERTY’. Around the rim is a continuous scrolling design of stylised leaves, some supporting berries. Six point hanging frame fitted around the back. Copper sheet, raised, embossed and chased,  height 3 cm, diameter 51.2 cm, 1890. Arts and Crafts. Lent to the museum by The Keatley Trust.
