Islamic pottery bowl with medallions and palmettes

An image of Bowl. Islamic pottery. Garrus ware. Unknown potter, Iran. Shape: hemispherical bowl with a plain rim on a disc base cut, away on the underside. Interior: on the body a frieze of four circular medallions, separated by palmettes, contains birds and scrolling leaves, all carved through a cream slip. The glaze pools and is cracked in the base, splashes of green pigment are present in one area. Three scar marks on the lower body indicated the use of a tripod stacking device in the kiln. Pinkish earthenware, wheel thrown, coated in a white slip carved under a colourless glaze, splashed with traces of green. Exterior: undecorated except for a cream slip and colourless glaze extending to the foot ring. Height, whole, 8.5 cm, width, whole, 18.6 cm, diameter, base, 6.8 cm, circa 1100-circa 1299. Seljuk.
