Image attached to C.51 & A-1932

An image of Ewer and cover with lotus and cloud designs. Unknown pottery. Possibly North Cholla province, Puan-gun, Yuch'on-ri kilns, or South Cholla province, Kangjin-gun, Sadang-ri kilns, Korea. This ewer has a tall waisted neck with a raised ridge where it meets the angled shoulder. The spout is very long, the strap-shaped handle is attached at the shoulder and continues almost down to the base. The footring is low. The flat dish-shaped cover has a lotus-bud knob and a small loop at the rim corresponding to a loop on top of the handle. The body is incised with a large lotus flower on either side and a border of lotus petals at the base, while the shoulder and neck feature cloud motifs spaciously arranged. The glaze is of pale blue-green colour, clear and glossy, and somewhat discoloured at the top of the neck. The footring has been wiped free of glaze and shows traces of fire-clay spurs. Stoneware, thrown, with parts attached, incised and celadon-glazed. Height, whole, 29.5 cm, diameter, rim, 8.7 cm, diameter, foot, 9.7 cm, circa 1100-1200. Koryo Dynasty.
