An image of Naked Pigmy looking up to Naked Girl and Man on Tree and Naked. Gill, Eric (British, 1882-1940). Two woodblock carvings, each with gesso on the front face. A is in the form of a smooth slender trunk with a single leaf projecting from the right side, three pairs of lanceolate leaves branching off the left, a stick-like man at the bottom seizing the lowest sideshoot, and a girl hanging on to the topmost shoot by her left hand. B is in the form of scrolling serrated edged leaves with a daisy head at the top, a kilted bearded man half-way up, and at the bottom, a naked woman with long hair, who is bending down and grasping the base of the plant as if to uproot it. Each is mounted on separate rectangular ebonized wood blocks, which are mounted on a larger, deep rectangular ebonized wood base. Blackened wood, gesso and ebonized wood, 1927.
