Crucifixion. Centre panel of a triptych, on a sunk panel with plain narrow borders. Under a pierced canopy supported on two slender columns, Christ is crucified between the Virgin and St John. At the foot of the cross is the skull of Adam. Ivory, carved, height, whole, 11.8, cm, width, whole, 9.2, cm, weight, whole, 3 1/4, oz. Circa 900-1100. Production Place: Byzantium.
