Crucifixion. Right wing of a diptych. Under a triple arch with crocketted gables and pinnacles, Christ hangs on the cross in the centre. On the left the Virgin swoons into the arms of two holy women. On the right stands St John holding a book, and behind him two Jews. Above their heads on either side are two angels expressing grief. Ivory, carved, height, whole, 4 3/4 in, width, whole, 2 3/4 in, circa 1300-1400. Gothic, Medieval. French.
