Tazza. Standing dish. TC, silversmith, England, London. With heads of putti, sea monsters, snails, fruit, leaves and scrolls. Shallow circular dish with flat rim standing on a trumpet-shaped foot. The rim of the shaped circular dish is pierced, embossed and chased with alternating putti heads and fruit amongst scrolls. The dished area is pierced, embossed and chased with scrolling heads of sea monsters and snails alternating with winged putti heads. The slightly raised centre is pricked with a shield containing the initials 'I' over 'HI', around which are borders of punched circles and chased overlapping leaves and arches. The trumpet-shaped circular foot is pierced with vertical bands, and chased and punched with arches and dots. Silver, pierced, chased, punched and pricked, height, to rim, 8.5 cm, diameter, across rim, 28 cm, weight, whole, 555 g, circa 1616-circa 1617. Production Note: The form and design were probably influenced by Portuguese silver dishes.
