Embroidery Sampler. J.J. Sandeman. Double weave canvas embroidered with polychrome wools in cross stitch. Small repeat patterns are used to frame and divide the sampler into 3 horizontal bands. At the top an upper case alphabet, ampersand & numerals 1-7; in the centre a lower case alphabet & 8-10; the lower band inscribed "J.J. Sanderman 7". Double turned and stitched hem on 3 sides, selvedge to lower edge turned once and stitched. 1940-1950.
