A cavalry fight, by Rembrandt

Image attached to AD.12.38-97

An image of A cavalry fight. Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669). Etching, surface tone, black carbon ink on laid paper, height, plate, 105 mm, width, plate, 79 mm; height, sheet, 105 mm, width, sheet, 79 mm, circa 1632. Production Note: Between state I and II/II. Notes(s): This impression appears to be an intermediate state between I & II. Although the plate has been cut down to roughly 105 x 79 mm, there is a lot of plate tone on this impression that has been partially burnished away in other impressions (for example, see AD.12.39-128). The cut down size and burnishing are the criteria given to identify state II. Alternative Number(s): Hollstein (Dutch/Flemish); B117 between I & II/II; 1969. Biörklund/Barnard; BB32-7 between I & II/II; 1955.
