Continental glass. Càntir. Pouring vessel for wine. Unknown glasshouse, Spain, Catalonia. Pale yellowish bubbly glass with opaque white threads, applied blue glass decoration and bird finial. Height, whole, 27.8 cm, width, whole, 17.3 cm, circa 1700-1750, possibly late 17th century. Production Note: A càntir is a vessel for pouring water. The word derives from the Spanish cántaro, a ceramic jug. This form is one of several typical of Catalonian glass production. Sir Ivor and Lady Batchelor Bequest through The Art Fund.
