Image attached to C.32 & A-2015

An image of Teapot and cover. Cockpit Hill Pottery, probably, England, Derbyshire. Painted in red, black and green enamels on one side with a parrot perched on a branch pecking at cherries, and on the other with roses. The ovoid pot has rouletted beading round the base and mouth, a curved fluted spout with pointed leaves round its junction with the body, and seven holes behind it to emit the tea. The double entwined reeded handle has four leafy termals. The almost flat cover has a rouletted beading border, a ventilation hole, and a convolvulus-shaped knob. One side is painted with a parrot perching in a tree and pecking cherries. The other side is painted with two large red roses and foliage. The cover is painted with three small floral sprays, and the flower knob has a red edging. Dark cream earthenware, thrown, and rouletted, with an applied moulded spout, reeded handles with moulded terminals, and applied knob on the cover. The lead-glaze is very slightly yellow. Height, whole, 11.5 cm, length, whole, 17.7 cm, circa 1765-1775. Rococo. Sir Ivor and Lady Batchelor Bequest through the Art Fund.
