An image of The Spanish gypsy 'Preciosa'. Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669). Etching, surface tone, black carbon ink on laid paper,  borderlines drawn on bottom and right-hand edges, height, plate, 133 mm, width, plate, 115 mm; height, sheet, 135 mm, width, sheet, 117 mm, circa 1642. Production Note: Only state. Notes(s): The print takes the title of 'Preciosa' from Cervantes' tale of the same title, on which some have argued that Rembrandt indirectly based his subject. The print, however, does not seem to have been intended as a book illustration. Alternative Number(s): Hollstein (Dutch/Flemish); B120 Only state. Biörklund/Barnard; BB42-2 Only state. Lugt; 2849.
