Chinese figure of a mounted horseman

Image attached to C.19-1927

An image of Horseman. Unknown maker, China. Figure of a mounted horseman, on a rectangular base. The horseman is definitely a heavily bearded foreigner, wearing the costume normally associated with those from Central Asia. Holes have been pierced into, but not through, the hands. Perhaps they once held leather reins. Both the rider and horse are covered in a white slip, and then glazed in off white (which appears straw yellow under ultra violet light). There are also traces of black and red over paint. Both the base and the horse's legs have been broken. The front legs have two beaks each, and the back legs one break each. Mould made, white earthenware, height 26.3 cm, 618-906. T’ang Dynasty.
