Staffordshire salt-glazed inkpot and pen case

An image of Inkpot and pen case. Unknown pottery, England, Staffordshire. Cylindrical ink pot with double walls, the outer wall pierced with perforations in the shape of the four different pips of a pack of cards. The lid forming a sheath for a quill pen, is of tapering cylindrical form with a rounded end, and attachs by a screw to the neck of the pot. On the base the initials and date 'H:P/1757' are painted in red. White salt-glazed stoneware, moulded in two parts, the lower part pierced, and inscribed in red enamel. Height, whole, 17.5 cm, dated 1757.
