Netsuke: mask. Unknown maker, Japan. No mask of a young woman (mambi?) of smooth texture, hollowed out with a bar across the middle bearing the himotoshi. Her hair is parted at the middle and her mouth is open; simply carved with good patina. Wood, hollowed out, simply carved, height, whole, 1.8 cm, width, whole, 4.4 cm, circa 1800-1868. Edo Period (1615-1868). Notes: Mambi is a young female with a smiling expression, the Japanese ideal. Collection: H.S. Reitlinger.
