Folding fan. The 'Ashton Botanical' or 'Botanical Orders' Fan. Ashton, Sarah, (British, late 18th century). Inscribed 'Published as the Act directs July 21st, 1792, by Sarah Ashton... Little Britain.'; on the reverse are details of the numbered items, and lines from Erasmus Darwin's 'The Botanic Garden'. Double paper leaf printed and hand-coloured. The sticks and guards are of polished laburnum wood. Length, guards, 25.7 cm, circa 1792.
