Figure Group. Hercules and Cerberus. Le Nove Porcelain Factory, The Veneto, Le Nove. A brown lion skin and mask is draped around his hips. In his left hand he holds the lower end of a large dappled brown club which rests on his left shoulder. He holds a knotted rope in his right hand which is extended downwards. Cerberus, in the form of a friendly-looking black and white dog with three open-mouthed heads, is seated beside him. His left front paw is raised towards Hercules, and his tail is curled round and extends beyond the edge of the base. On his neck there is the remains of a rope which originally joined up with the knot held in Hercules’s hand. Hard-paste porcelain, press moulded and glazed, painted in polychrome enamels, height, whole, 21.9 cm, width, whole, 11.8 cm, width, base, 10.5 cm, circa 1785-1795. Antonibon-Parolin period.
