English etui enamelled with pastoral vignettes

An image of Boxes/Etui/Objets de vertu. Unknown, maker, Staffordshire, possibly. Unknown, maker, London. Enamel on copper with gilt metal mounts; oval in section with tapering sides, hinged lid and sprung button catch. The etui enamelled in colours with four pastoral vignettes within raised gilt scrolling cartouches on a dark pink ground decorated with white diaper-work, dots and sprigs of flowers. The top and bottom of the lid and base with chased gilt metal mounts. The vignette on one side of the base depicts a shepherdess with her sheep in front of an obelisk in a rural landscape; depicted on the other side of the base is a shepherd with his sheep in front of Classical ruins; and on either side of the lid are depicted a shepherd and his sheep in a rural landscape. The interior has a gilt metal top with spaces for seven implements. It contains a pair of steel and brass scissors (A), a brass bodkin (B), a brass spoon (C), a brass pencil holder (D), a pair of ivory memorandum leaves hinged with a gilt button (E) and a small ivory ear pick with hinged tortoiseshell toothpick (F) in a quill case(G). One implement is missing. Height, whole, 2.4 cm, length, whole, 9.4 cm, width, whole, 4.0 cm, circa 1760-1770. English.
