Japanese pottery. Tea caddy with ivory lid. Unknown pottery, Japan, Satsuma. Of katatsuki (square-shouldered) form, with everted rim. Thrown and turned. Dipped in thin iron glaze to within 1.4 cm of base. Then four pours of same glaze from the shoulder, followed by two brush marks in white slip, one on shoulder, and one on the side at the top. Stoneware, glazed, brush painted, height 8.5 cm, diameter, rim, 3.3 cm, diameter, tea caddy, 5.8 cm, diameter, foot, 3.8 cm, circa 1700-circa 1899. Edo period (1615-1868) / Meiji period (1868-1912).
