Orange Lily with an insect, by Antoine du Pinet

An image of Album. Lilium Bulbiferum Orange Lily with an insect. Pinet, Antoine du (French, op. c. 1584). Drawing, height, sheet size, 204 mm, width, sheet size, 139 mm. Each of the drawings is framed by a border of gold paint of varying size according to the depth of the painted area. The drawings on white laid paper, watermarked with a bunch of grapes are bound into an album with a contemporary gold-tooled limp vellum cover bearing the arms, recto and verso of Louise of Lorraine (1553-1601). This, in turn, is bound into an eighteenth century French red morocco gilt binding. The spine is lettered in gold (see 'inscriptions/marks'.) Each of the drawings is framed by a border of gold paint of varying size according to the depth of the painted area.
