  • Illuminated Manuscript. Epistulae. Jerome, author. Latin, Late Caroline minuscule. Production Place: Germany. Parchment, i paper flyleaf + 130 fols. (with four additions made on inserted parchment pieces foliated 16*, 25*, 53*, 102*) + i paper flyleaf, 214 x 140 (172 x 100) mm, 39 long lines, ruled in plummet, written above top line. BINDING: nineteenth century, half-bound in sprinkled calf and marbled paper over pasteboards. 1100-1150. CONTENTS: fols. 1r – 130v Jerome, Epistulae; fol. 130v Recipe Ad curandum dolorem oculorum ending expertum est 1439 moguncie. ORNAMENTATION: Red initial [E, 7 ll.] with fleshy acanthus and foliage scrolls (fol. 1r); red penwork initials [1 – 5 ll.]; marginal corrections and additions within geometric or foliate frames in brown and red ink; capitals highlighted in red.
