  • Illuminated manuscript. Cutting. Historiated initial from a Choir Psalter and Hymnal. Parchment, gold, 495 x 405 mm (395 x 310 mm), on recto, 14 lines of text written on alternate lines, ruled in brown ink, and one three-line musical stave ruled in red ink, on reverse, 12 lines of text written on alternate lines, ruled in brown ink. Production: Italy, Umbria, Perugia. Circa 1475 to circa 1480. CONTENTS: Ps. 114:1-8; the initial marked the start of Ps. 114, Dilexi quoniam, which is preceded by the antiphon Alleluia. Euo with rubric Tempore paschali.on the verso of the original leaf. DECORATION: Historiated initial formed of inner staves of liquid gold surrounded by sections of solid colour, foliage and fruit on grounds of blue with intricate white highlighting and scalloped edging in brown ink, [D, 9 ll.], St Anthony of Padua with halo of punched gold standing with heart in right hand and closed book in left. ORNAMENTATION: Alternate red and blue voided initials [2 ll.] at the start of each verse, guide letters still visible; initial to versicle and responsory filled with yellow.
