An image of Textiles. Sample. Unknown maker, Japan. Stylised pattern of chrysanthemums. Beige silk ground (with silk embroidery/brocade?). Satin stitch in shades of blue, green, red, orange, yellow, brown and cream. ? Kara-ori (literally Chinese weaving). Japanese silk in this style with loose threads resembling embroidery or possibly Atsuita - pattern threads tied down rather than floated. Length, whole, 70.5 cm, width, whole, 42 cm, circa 1700-circa 1899. Acquisition Credit: Given by Mrs. Soame Jenyns, in accordance with the wishes of her late husband, Soame Jenyns.
