Netsuke: sashi: Ashinaga and Tenaga. Unknown maker, Japan. Ashinaga and Tenaga, the latter seated on his friend's back and reaching down with his elongated arms to hold up Ashinaga's leaf skirt. Ashinaga's hands are clasped behind his back holding up Tenaga. Their hair is scraped into a bun. Natural himotoshi formed by arms and legs. Boxwood, carved and stained, height, whole, 9.9 cm, width, whole, 2.5 cm, circa 1800-1868. Edo Period (1615-1868).
