Imari style cup and saucer, New Hall Factory

An image of Cup and Saucer/Teacup. New Hall Porcelain Factory, Staffordshire. The cup is of Bute shape with an oval ring handle. The circular saucer has curved sides and stands on a footring. The exterior of the cup is decorated with an Oriental landscape in which are a man standing beside a garden pavilion, a flowering tree, stylized flowers growing on a rock a man fishing from a bridge, and further back two more buildings and in the distance a European church, a figure in a small boat, and various plants and leaves. There is a gold band round the base and rim, inside which there is a gold border of adjacent slanting leaves with detached strokes or buds at intervals. At the bottom thee is a floral spray. Down the back of the handle there are eight stylized gold leaves of graduated size. The interior of the saucer is decorated with the same design, differing slightly, and has a gold band round the rim. Bone china, painted underglaze in blue, overglaze in apricot enamel and gilded. Height, cup, 6 cm, width, cup, 10 cm, diameter, cup, 8.2 cm, height, saucer, 3 cm, diameter, saucer, 14 cm, circa 1815-1820. Imari style. The pattern differs very slightly from no. 1163.
