  • Historiated initial from an Antiphoner. Gherarducci, Don Silvestro dei. Canzoni, Maestro delle. Rosselli, Niccolo. Cenni, Cenni di Francesco di Ser. Latin, Gothic bookhand (textualis). CONTENTS: Fragmentary text on reverse from the versicle for the third lesson of the first nocturn at Matins for the feast of St Laurence, [Mea nox obscurum non habet, sed omnia in luce cl]arescunt. B[eate Laurenti martyr Christi intercede pro nobis.] In se[cundo nocturne]; the initial L, which would have been on the original recto, would have introduced the responsory for the first lesson of Matins for the feast of St Lawrence (10 August), Levita Laurentius bonum operatus. DECORATION: Historiated initial in graded blue, orange, pale yellow and liquid gold with acanthus extensions on a ground of gold leaf: [L] St Lawrence holding a palm branch, the gridiron and a book. Parchment, initial aprox. 220 x 195 mm, 2 lines of fragmentary text ruled in plummet and two fragmentary four-line musical staves ruled in red ink on reverse. 1390. Production Place: Florence, Italy.
