  • Illuminated manuscript. Cutting. Historiated initial from an Antiphoner. Production Place: Italy, Lombardy. Parchment, gold, 115 x 107 mm, thirteen lines ruled in brown ink on reverse, text written on every fourth line, circa 1450 to circa 1475. CONTENTS: On reverse, part of Psalm 38:6-7, mea tamquam [nihilum ante te / verumtamen uni]versa vanitas om[nis homo vivens / verumtamen in ima]gine pertransit hom[o / sed et frustra conturbatur / thesaurizat et] ignorat cui congr[egabit ea]; the initial would have introduced Psalm 38, Dixi custodiam. DECORATION: Historiated initial in blue with acanthus extensions on gold ground: Psalm 38, [D, 13 ll.] David pointing at mouth, seated on a bench in a landscape, a large volume resting on his knees.
