Inscription with floral illustration: The Dandelion (Taraxacum vulgare Lamk). Bicknell, Clarence (British, 1842-1918). Recto, lower right; watercolour; The Order of the / Golden Lion. Verso, upper right; watercolour; Rosa montana / Chaix. Verso, below centre; watercolour; the Prize. This she did very / graciously, and to all the others / as consolation prizes, one of / Dr. Arnica's phials, and one of / the Taraxacum's monoplanes / while, as a souvenir of the fête, small gold crowns, made / by Parnessia palustris, were distributed to everybody. / And so ended the festival, and all went / away saying / "God save the King". Watercolour and graphite on paper, height, leaf, 278 mm, width, leaf, 190 mm, 1914. From: The Triumph of the Dandelion. Parnessia palustris. Vellum bound sketchbook with white leather closure straps attached to covers. Contains 58 leaves. Front cover bears a roughly square polychrome watercolour design, surrounding the words 'THE DANDELION'. Inside rear cover there is an watercolour and graphite illustration of 'Parnassia palustris L.'
