Chicken cup. Hard-paste porcelain painted in an enamel palette of rich iron-red, pale yellow, pale green, pale aubergine, and outlined in soft underglaze blue. The small bowl is of slightly flared form resting on a countersunk base. The exterior is decorated with a cock, a hen and three chicks on each side, divided by sprays of lilies and peonies growing behind jagged ornamental rocks. There is a double line border in underglaze blue round the rim. The interior is entirely plain. China C.1662-1722
