Parchment, gold, 588 x 400 mm (360 x 235 mm) 23 long lines, ruled in ink and accommodating two lines of text and two four-line musical staves ruled in red ink on the original recto of the leaf, and twelve lines of text on the original verso, circa 1460 to circa 1477. Production Place: Italy, Siena.
CONTENTS: On reverse (original recto): two musical staves and two lines of text containing the Antiphon for the first psalm of the first nocturn of Vespers for a Sunday in the Easter season, Aleluia. Euoue Dixit dominus [Domino meo sede a dextris meis] Euoue; the initial, which would have been on the original verso, introduced Ps. 109:1-2, Dixit dominus domino meo…virgam virtutis tuae emittet dominus. DECORATION: Historiated initial in graded blue on burnished gold ground, with acanthus leaves extending into full borders containing birds, putti and gold balls: Ps 109:1, [D, 11 ll.] King David enthroned, flanked by two attendants, and trampling on an enemy. ORNAMENTATION: Alternate blue and red penwork initials [2-4 ll.] with reserved ornament, and red and blue pen-flourished infill and frames.
