An image of Illuminated manuscript. Cutting. Initial from a set of choir books. Gherardino da Forlì, Giustino di, artist (Italian). Production Place: Italy, Venice. Parchment, 161 x 165mm, two musical staves ruled in red ink, two fragmentary lines of text, circa 1360 to circa 1370.
CONTENT: On reverse, part of the second Antiphon for second Vespers on the Feast of the Annunciation [M]aria grat[ia ple]na; the initial would have introduced the antiphon at Vespers for the feast of the Annunciation, Missus est Gabriel (Luke 1. 26).
DECORATION: Historiated initial in graded pink or grey with acanthus ornament on gold ground:[M] Annunciation.
