object type: Linen band sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, long-armed cross, eyelet, Florentine, rice and chain stitch.  Three edges are hemmed and there is a selvedge at the bottom.  The sampler is divided into three main horizontal sections. The upper one of three alphabets and inscription: O THOU TO WHOM ANGeLS / THeIR HTMNS ADDReSS TO / WHOM ALL KNeeS MUST BOW / ALL TONgUeS CONFeSS ha / Ve OFFeNded GOd Where Sha / LL I FLY to hide MY seLF Fr / OM hIS OFFeNded EYe IF RO. Beneath is a band of Florentine work, the date 1717 and the names EdWard / BaCheLeR and Rvth / BaCheLeR. The third section contains a band of crowns with initials GR, PW, PW DF alternating with small lozenges and bands of Florentine stitching and border patterns.
