The sampler comprises sixteen horizontal bands.  The top six are repeat border patterns, 7-8 have an alphabet worked in satin stitch; band 9 on the left has a repeat in colour of band 6, in the centre the inscription 'Mary Petter/ May the 12/ 1718' and to the right a repeat from band 13.  Bands 10 to 16 again are repeat border patterns.
