Silver metal thread is worked in cross, eyelet and chain stitch. There is a plain selvedge at the bottom and the other edges arte hemmed in pink silk. There are three main sections. The top section contains narrow repeating geometric border patterns, three alphabets, a set of numerals and the date 1707. The second and main part of the sampler contains an inscription within a floral arch with a crown and lozenges on either side above, and below there is another inscription between floral sprays with similar crowns and lozenges. The inscriptions read 'The/3 Chap of John/vers the 16/For God so loved the wo/rld that he Gave his only/begotten Son that whoso/ever believeth in him/should not perish but have/everlasting life', ' The 17 Chap/of John vers the 3/And this is life eternal that they might/know thee the only true God and/Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent'.
